# Adding Referrals

Referrals allow you to capture customers or prospects product interests and assign them to other users. Once a referral is added, it automatically becomes an Opportunity for the person that you assigned it to.

1. *To add a Referral for a customer or prospect, search for the customer or prospect and click the appropriate link on the Search Results screen.*
2. *Once the profile is displayed, click on the Add Referral button on the toolbar.*
3. *Select a Type for this Referral. Your marketing department will set up these campaigns.*
4. *Fill in fields on the Referral Tab.*
5. *Click on "Add an item" to add the products of interest.*
6. *Click the Save or Save and view Activity Queue button in the toolbar to save the opportunity.*

- **Type** - The Type is used to group activities into categories. You must select a Type in order to save the activity.
- **Referred By** - Defaults to your name. If you are creating a referral for another person, you can search for their name. You can also select an external COI in this field.
- **Refer To** - The person that has been assigned the activity. Type in this box to find another user. As you type, matching user names will appear.
- **Reminders** - The reminder field allows you to set a reminder for any activity. The reminder date has to be in the future.
- **Products** - The product interests for the referral

Adding Sales Line Items

1. *Click the “Add an Item” command to add a new line item to the Referral.*
2. *Use the category drop down list to select the product category.*
3. *Use the product drop down to select a product within the category.*
4. *Enter the potential balance for the item.*
5. *Enter the potential fees for the item.*

Deleting Sales Line Items

1. *Click the Delete link besides the sales line item that you want to delete.*
2. *Click OK to confirm the deletion*

### Notes Tab

Use this tab to view or add notes to the Referral. These notes will be visible to anyone who can see the item. For more information, see [Using the Notes Tab](https://6645385.hs-sites.com/knowledge/using-the-notes-tab?hsLang=en).

 

### Tracking Referrals
