Using Dashboards

How do I interact with dashboards?

dashboard

  1. Dashboard Icon - Click the blue icon to go back to the list of dashboards.
  2. Undo / Redo / Refresh - The Undo and Redo tools allow you to undo and redo changes you made in the dasboard view. The Refresh tool refreshes the page when you make changes.
  3. Dashboard Name - Displays the dashboard name. You can click on the star tool to add the dashboard to your favorites list. The text after the dashboard name shows "Original Dashboard" when you first view the dashboard. When use bookmarks and filters, the text changes to reflect your changes.
  4. Book Marks - You can use the book marks tool to save changes that you make using filters and interactions. You can create multiple book marks.
  5. Gear - Click the Gear button to download a PDF of the Dashboard or the data used in the dashboard.
  6. Open - Click the icon with 4 boxes to open other Dashboards and Looks
  7. Run - Click the Run button to run the Dashboard. Many Dashboards will run automatically.

Filters

Filters are a powerful feature that allows the author to target a specific set of data for their users. Multiple filters can be combined to get the exact information to answer difficult business questions.

Report filters help set up the queries that are used as the building blocks of Dashboards. These filters are not shown to the end-user.

Dashboard filters are used to control the data for one or more Looks on the Dashboard. Dashboards will run automatically when you select one from the catalog. Some Dashboards require filter values to be entered before they can be run. These filters show a yellow triangle until a value is entered.

For more information, see Using Dashboard Filters.

Drilling Down

Looks and Dashboards have extensive drill-down capabilities that allow you to get more detailed information.

Pre-Defined Drill Downs

Some data fields have pre-defined drill-down paths. For example, clicking on a product category drills down to the product sub-category then to the product name. If a drill-down path is defined, you will set a gray shape with three dots beside the field name.

Drill Down to Dashboards

You may also see drill-down options that take you to another dashboard. The system looks at the data fields in the visualization and finds other dashboards that use similar fields.

Drill Down to Profiles

If a field on a Look or Dashboard contains a Customer Name, Customer ID, or Account ID, you can drill down to the Customer or Account Profile page.

For more information, see Drilling Down.
